The term used for hearing loss due to the ageing factor is called presbycusis . The loss associated with presbycusis is usually greater for high-pitched sounds. For example, it may be difficult for someone to hear the voice of his wife or the ringing of a telephone. However, the same person may be able to hear clearly the low-pitched sound of a lorry rumbling down the street. HOW HEARING LOSS IS DETECTED? The first thing that we notice about our parents is they can’t hear well when we talk to them. They would ask us to repeat our conversation all over again and then they can reply to it.
